Air Quality
EAS provide Air Quality, Dust and Odour Assessments for planning and environmental permit applications.

Air Quality Assessments evaluate the impact of emissions from traffic, energy centres, industrial sources, and construction activities on local air quality. These assessments ensure compliance with national and local air quality policies and help mitigate potential impacts on human health and the environment.

Working Closely With You

Our assessments are carried out in line with relevant UK legislation, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), the Environment Act, and local authority requirements. Where necessary, we liaise with environmental regulators and planning authorities to ensure a smooth approval process. We work collaboratively with the project team to provide clear recommendations and mitigation strategies. Post-planning, EAS can assist with air quality monitoring, odour management, and compliance reporting to meet ongoing regulatory obligations.

Our Services Include:

Dispersion modelling (ADMS-Roads) of traffic and energy centre emissions for residential and commercial developments
Used to assess the impact of traffic-related and onsite energy emissions on local air quality. Essential for developments in areas with high traffic volumes or near energy centres.

Dispersion modelling (AERMOD/ADMS) of commercial and industrial emission sources, including odour
Applied to assess emissions from industrial sites, waste processing facilities, and other commercial operations. Required for environmental permit applications and impact assessments.

Habitat Risk Assessment
Evaluates the potential impact of air pollution on sensitive ecological sites, such as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). Often required under the Habitats Directive.

Dust Risk Assessment and Air Quality and Dust Management Plans (AQDMP)
Assesses the risk of dust emissions from construction and industrial sites, with mitigation strategies to reduce dust impacts on nearby receptors. Necessary for planning applications in urban areas.

Air Quality Neutral Assessment and Low Emission Strategies (LES)
Determines whether a development meets air quality neutrality standards in line with Greater London Authority (GLA) and local planning requirements. Where necessary, Low Emission Strategies provide measures to reduce emissions.

Air Quality Positive Statements
Required for major developments in London under the GLA’s Air Quality Positive Framework. These statements outline how a scheme will actively improve air quality rather than just mitigate its impact.

Ambient air quality monitoring
Measures real-world pollutant concentrations to inform planning applications, verify modelling results, and assess compliance with air quality objectives.

Odour Surveys and Odour Management Plans
Identifies odour sources and evaluates potential impacts, with management strategies to mitigate odour nuisance. Required for waste facilities, food production sites, and other odour-generating industries.

Commercial Kitchen Odour Assessment
Evaluates odour emissions from catering facilities and recommends mitigation measures to ensure compliance with local authority standards. Commonly required for planning applications involving restaurants and takeaways.

SCAIL agricultural emissions screening
A tool used to assess ammonia and nitrogen deposition from agricultural developments, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Required for intensive farming applications.

UK Environment Agency Air Emissions screening
Screening assessments for industrial and regulated sites to determine whether detailed modelling is required for permit applications. Ensures compliance with UK environmental regulations.

BREEAM Indoor Air Quality Monitoring and Indoor Air Quality Plans (IAQP)
Supports BREEAM certification by ensuring good indoor air quality in new developments. Indoor Air Quality Plans outline measures to maintain a healthy indoor environment, while monitoring verifies compliance.
